Senior Full-Stack Engineer at Sylla

AI is a core part of our product and everyday work, and where we believe it can be used to do good. At Sylla, we’re working everyday on making Higher Education more affordable, accessible and engaging. Through the Sylla platform, we make it easy for universities, colleges and their staff to make use of high quality free eductional resources at scale. By using the latest technology and techniques we make it easy to match these to their teaching and curricula today: creating an easier and more personalised experience for educators, enabling them to focus more time on teaching with resources at no or the lowest possible cost for their students.
Details
Must haves:
Deep knowledge of NextJS (and JS/TS/WebAPI)
NextJS/frontend testing expertise (Jest, RTL, Cypress, etc.)
Strong architecture skills for designing and implementing larger projects
Expertise in API/relational DB design
8+ years of relevant software engineering experience
You became (or will become) a 10x engineer since you started using AI tools in your daily work (eg CursorAI, Claude/GPT)
Good understanding of AI techniques with hands-on experience in RAG and vector embeddings
Nice to have:
Experience AI agents and setting them up
Familiarity with AWS and serverless architectures
Experience with FGA
Experience with advanced data pipelines
Tech we use:
NextJS (App router & TypeScript)
Python
Redis & PostgreSQL
AWS Lambda, ECS, SQS, SES... we might use the whole alphabet soup of AWS services
QStash (serverless message queue)
Fine-Grained Authorization (Google Zanzibar)
Location: Preferably Lisbon (hybrid), remote possible. Relocation possible
